Benjamin Sung, Violinist

Violinist Benjamin Sung is an active recitalist and chamber musician on stages across the world. In recent months, he has given a live recital taped for broadcast on the PBC television network in Seoul, South Korea; appeared at the Festival Internacionale de Musica de Pernambuco, Brazil; and performed under Pierre Boulez as the assistant concertmaster of the Lucerne Academy’s Orchestra at the Lucerne Festival, Switzerland.

Mr. Sung has received a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University, in the studio of Nelli Shkolnikova, where his dissertation examined the concerted works of Béla Bartók. He holds a Masters degree from Indiana as well, and his Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he was a student of Oleh Krysa. He is the winner of the Starling Prize from the Eastman School of Music, and the Violin Fellowship of the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Sung is currently the Concertmaster of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, and also is a faculty member at both North Dakota State University and Minnesota State University. He is also the Artistic Director of ClefWorks, a music and arts festival in Montgomery, Alabama, which recently completed its first season series.
